Why "Wild Goose?"

Flying Geese in V Formation The wild goose embodies the untamable and unpredictable nature of the Spirit and is a reminder that the Spirit is disturber as well as comforter.  It is a symbol for the Holy Spirit used by the Celtic peoples of Ireland and Scotland.

For instance, did you know that geese in formation can fly much faster and farther than they do individually?  Wild geese are regarded as disturbing nuisances by some, creating noise at moments that are often inconvenient, even pests to be shot.  And at another level they convey a sense of foolishness which is how God’s upside-down kingdom values appear to the world. While their gait is awkward, in flight the wild goose displays grace and beauty. He exemplifies an outrageous wildness as his great wings beat with exceptional power implying the capacity to achieve the apparently impossible.

Put all this together and the wild goose image resonates deeply within us. We believe that the God of the Bible is wild and free, safe but not tame, unfathomable, uncontainable, unpredictable, and yet able to be known intimately. This is why we adopted Wild Goose Ministries as our name and why our hearts go where the Wild Goose goes.

Note: Wild Goose is currently used in the Iona, Scotland community for the name of Wild Goose Publishing and Wild Goose Resources, the music group and publications (see www.ionabooks.com). Other than those two sources, it is not currently used anywhere in the United States in relation to the person or work of the Holy Spirit.)

What We Do

We are people from various walks of life who are determined to “be” the message of Christ. Wild Goose Ministries represents a people bound together by their love for Jesus, and a deep desire to demonstrate the good news of His message within our local area and culture. Our community exists solely to encourage and nurture a real living relationship with God and each other, and to represent Him by our loving, vulnerable, intentional lifestyles.

Usually, we have an open style meeting unless we have a specified speaker or event. We welcome anyone seeking to know more about God and to experience His love. Have you an experience of God you want to share? Join us on Wednesday evenings at 6:30 PM.

We practice open ministry whereby each member of the group participates in the ministry he or she is called to, whether within the group or outside of it. We believe the traditional church in its present form fails to support and back each of its members in ministry, which interferes with the Holy Spirit-led use of gifts and talents in ministry. It is our desire to provide time and space for these gifts and talents to be exercised weekly.

Wild Goose Ministries International supports many other ministries, both local and abroad. (Click on "Follow the Wild Goose" to see some of our ministries). We believe the bulk of our funds should go towards the work of Christ and not to pay staff, build buildings or create organizations that require a large overhead. Our purpose is not to criticize the church institution in which we served for over forty years, but to follow the call of God for us. We are a Florida Not-for-Profit Corporation and a Federal 501 (C) (3) organization.
